Remember when there was all that hype around the possibility of cell phones causing cancer?  Well, since then, cellular devices have advanced, and not even the possibility of carcinogenic risk can stop us from using our devices.  In fact, cell phone use has skyrocketed since then these reports first came out, and a significantly higher percentage of people have a mobile device now than compared to then.

If the risk of cancer does not change our habits, then I am at a loss as to what will.  Perhaps this: Studies have shown that mobile phone usage is linked with depression.  A study conducted in South Korea found that one-third of the survey participants used their phone more than ninety times on a daily basis.  These participants also tested higher on surveys that gauge levels of depression.  Although this group did not test at a “clinically depressed” level, it is compelling evidence that cell phone dependency is a growing factor in psychological health.

Younger generations have reported signs of anxiety if they forget their cell phone at home for a day.  Experts contemplate that this could be related to dependency similar to an addictive behavior.

It is clear that with the advancement of technology, the movement away from cell phone usage is unlikely.  With the development of new uses for mobile devices, people are bound to become more dependent and less concerned with the consequences when it comes to physical and/or psychological health.  No one can quite for see the future hazards of excessive cell phone use, however, just as technology evolves, anything is possible.
